Nuclear associations’ deal aims to foster greater US-UK exchange

The UK’s Nuclear Institute and the American Nuclear Society (ANS) have signed an agreement to offer reciprocal membership.
Nuclear Institute CEO Robert Gofton said: “Global cooperation is critical to addressing the challenges and opportunities of nuclear energy today and this agreement reflects the strong ties between the UK and US nuclear communities.
“By opening up reciprocal membership benefits, we are enabling professionals to expand their knowledge and take advantage of networks, and opportunities on both sides of the Atlantic, which will help to bolster both individuals and the sector as a whole.”
Nuclear Institute members will be able to attend ANS conferences, events, and webinars at member rates, and vice versa, and have access to publications, resources and other benefits from both organisations.
Members of both organisations can apply for free membership of the other for business purposes if they regularly travel or work in each other’s country.
The UK and US governments are themselves collaborating on fast track delivery of new modular reactor programmes now being developed. The recent presidential visit also hinted at further cooperation in other scientific and technological areas.
It is hoped the nuclear associations’ agreement will foster closer international links, knowledge exchange and increased professional development opportunities.
