Wong appointed to Aston’s unique Regius pharmacy professorship

The pharmacoepidemiologist Professor Ian Wong has been appointed as the new Regius Professor of Pharmacy at Aston University.
Wong, whose work focuses on the use of healthcare big data to evaluate medicine use has headed major research programmes evaluating ADHD treatment, psychotropic medications in children and COVID-19 vaccination.
Additionally, he has advised the Departments of Health in England and Hong Kong, the World Health Organisation, the European Medicines Agency, and the pharmaceutical industry, and has some published an estimated 500 peer-reviewed papers. In his new role he will lead a data and pharmacy research collaboration between Aston and the University of Hong Kong.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Executive Dean of the College of Health and Life Sciences at Aston University, Professor Anthony Hilton, said:

Regius professorships are the gift of the monarch and few have been awarded since their creation in Queen Victoria’s reign. A leader in its field, Aston Pharmacy School was one of 12 universities to receive various recognitions from the late Queen Elizabeth II to mark her 90th birthday in 2016, when it became the only university to hold a Regius Professorship in pharmacy.
