The next generation flagship Smart Trak Model 100 digital mass flowmeter from Sierra Instruments is now available in a high pressure version from Litre Meter. Previously the meters were limited to just 33 bar but the new model can handle pressures up to 100 bar and Sierra is set to release a 300 bar unit later in 2012. Uniquely, the meter features a newly designed valve that reduces leakage to an absolute minimum when in the closed position. Other high pressure meters use metal valve seats that are difficult and expensive to manufacture and calibrate and do not seal completely. In addition, repeated cycling of the valve can damage the metal seat leading to degraded performance over time. Sierra’s patented DCE (Dynamic Compliance Electromagnetic) valve seat technology will not dimple or dent because it is made from an inert high impact polyamide. The high pressure ‘twists’ the valve seat into a better seal, allowing tighter control and reducing leak-by  to less than four standard cubic centimetres per minute (sccm).
