Aston Uni leads the way

The European Institute of Innovation and Technology has launched a £660m project which aims to develop jobs, businesses and markets within the low carbon sector.

Low carbon technologies are set to be developed across Europe, and Aston University are leading the way

Aston University – already at the forefront of research into renewable and green technologies – is part of a consortium bid which brings together the skills and expertise of leading universities, global companies and researchers with the aim of transforming the West Midlands and five other European regions into Climate Knowledge and Innovation Communities (Climate-KIC).These ‘innovation hotspots’ will develop, test and facilitate green industries and encourage new climate change markets.

The scheme will see investment across four research and innovation programme areas: low carbon cities; climate science; zero-carbon production systems and integrated water management. They will offer advanced training, the creation of new companies and spin outs and the development of low carbon industries across Europe.
