Nottingham - the home of Robin Hood and now the Scientific Laboratory Show 2008

OK, as revolutions go it’s not exactly Castro-esque in its political ambition – but it is undeniable that general lab shows in the UK most certainly need a bit of a shake-up and SLS think that their show will be the one to do just that.

The Scientific Laboratory Show 2008 boasts access to over 100 manufacturers of laboratory equipment and consumables as well as the opportunity of attending a one-day scientific congress and is being held on 2 July 2008, at the East Midlands Conference Centre, on the campus of Nottingham University.

And what a setting for such a show – the home of Robin Hood, a revolutionary if ever there was one. So will SLS be rounding up merry men with the aim of stealing from the rich and giving to the poor? Unlikely thinks Geoff Douglas - marketing manager of SLS - he says the attendees will be far too busy for all that.

“Our belief that this new event provides the perfect opportunity for scientists and laboratory specialists to learn more about new products and initiatives is shared by the leading suppliers who are confirming their attendance at the show, I’m delighted that the show is gaining approval and momentum throughout the industry,” he said. 
 
Leading manufacturers confirmed as attending the event include, Eppendorf, Barloworld Scientific, Miele, Whatman, Simport, Mettler, Thermo HeraFreeze, Bibby Scientific, Brand, Eppendorf, Grant, Integra Biosciences, Julabo, Mettler Toledo, Miele, Olympus, Scie-Plas and Whatman.

Ancillary laboratory services will also be available, such as intellectual property attorneys and funding houses as well as service providers outside of the general laboratory product portfolio are also attending such as UKAS, The University of Nottingham Business Services Group and LABsure.

As if that weren’t enough to tempt even the most lab-bound of science types to Nottingham then SLS are offering all exhibition delegates a complimentary lunch and refreshments through the day, a welcome pack and entrance into a draw to win one of three prizes.     

The show will also include a 1 day conference chaired by Roger Quince, MD of Granta Park Cambridgeshire and a Director of MEPC. Confirmed speakers for the conference include Fernando Alberericio, Director of Barcelona Science Park, Bruce Haxton, Video Link, Salt Lake City, Utah and Alex Rogers, Patent Attorney, Hesseltine Lake Attorneys, Intellectual Property Strategies for 21st Century Research. Dr Glenn Crocker, CEO of Nottingham BioCity will give the welcome address to the delegates attending the conference.

SLS are hopeful that the inclusion of companies outside the general UK distributor catalogue portfolio marks the show out as a credible occasion and far more appealing to a wider international audience.

With the expectation of 120 exhibitors and in excess of 500 visitors and delegates in one day, SLS hope The Scientific Laboratory Show will become the largest scientific communications event in the UK in 2008.
